This manual is for BUS-FPX2012 Assessment 2, start to submission. The middle deliverable in Leadership Fundamentals usually turns the lens around and asks about your own leadership, and it is graded on evidence rather than on candour: name the instrument, report what it returned, then support the result with incidents and produce one that contradicts it. Below is the method our tutors use for it, a structure that maps to the criteria, and an annotated sample excerpt. Want help with it? A premium original sample for this exact assessment comes back in 24 to 48 hours, revised free until it meets the guide. Your courseroom may print this as BUS FPX 2012 Assessment 2 or BUS2012 Assessment 2; it is the same deliverable, and BUS-FPX2012 Assessment 2 is what this manual walks through.
One honesty note before the manual: Capella revises courses and scoring guides over time, so always write to the exact scoring guide attached to your assessment in the courseroom. The course identity above is verified on capella.edu; the method and structure below are our tutors' approach to it, not Capella's official rubric text.
How BUS-FPX2012 Assessment 2 is scored
There are no letter grades in FlexPath. Each criterion on the scoring guide lands on one of four levels, and the level language is the writing brief:
| Level | What it means on a leadership self-assessment |
|---|---|
| Distinguished | The instrument is named and cited, the result is read against observed behavior rather than accepted, and at least one incident cuts against the score. The write-up says what the instrument does not measure. |
| Proficient | The result is reported accurately and illustrated with real examples, all of which agree with it. |
| Basic | An honest and readable account of the writer's style, with the score treated as a conclusion rather than as a claim needing support. |
| Non-performance | A score with no instrument behind it. A number reported without the tool that produced it is a number with no units, and the row cannot be marked. |
A score is a claim about you, and in this degree a claim needs support like any other. The criterion is not asking whether the result flattered you; it is asking what evidence stands behind it and what evidence does not.
The BUS-FPX2012 Assessment 2 method, step by step
-
Separate the reporting row from the interpreting row
Most guides here contain both, and they are scored apart. One wants the result stated plainly with its instrument; the other wants you to argue with it. Answering the first twice is the most common way to lose the second.
-
Cite the instrument and say what it measures
Name the inventory, its source, the scales it reports, and the range each scale runs on. An instrument's documentation is a citable source and the one students forget most often, which turns an otherwise solid paper into an unsupported one.
-
Report the result without softening it
Give the actual figures or bands, including the unflattering ones, and resist the urge to explain them away in the same sentence. Interpretation belongs in its own section, where the criterion is waiting for it.
-
Find two incidents that support the score and one that does not
Occasions, not tendencies. A day, a decision, a thing you said, and what happened next. The contradicting incident is the one the top column pays for, because it shows you tested the result instead of collecting it.
-
Say what the instrument cannot see
Self-report inventories ask you to rate yourself, which means they measure your account of your behavior as much as the behavior. Naming that limit in one sentence is a stronger move than any amount of reflection, and it costs no words.
-
Convert the finding into something auditable, then self-score
End with one commitment that has an action, a frequency, a period, and a measure that will move if it works. Then mark each row yourself and submit early, allowing for the two business days an evaluation can take.
A structure that maps to the criteria
These lengths are planning targets our tutors use for a self-assessment deliverable at this level, not Capella requirements; follow your own guide where it asks for more.
| Section | What it must do | Guide word target |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction | Your role, the team you lead or influence, the instrument you completed, and what the paper concludes about the result. | ~150 words |
| The instrument | What it is, where it came from, what it claims to measure, and the scales and ranges it reports. | ~225 words |
| The result reported | The figures or bands as returned, including the ones you would rather not print, with no interpretation yet. | ~200 words |
| Evidence for and against | Two occasions consistent with the result and one that is not, each with what was done and what followed. | ~375 words |
| Limits of the instrument | What a self-report scale cannot see, and how that changes the weight you put on the score. | ~225 words |
| One commitment and sources | An action with a frequency, a period, and a measure, plus instrument documentation and peer-reviewed sources in current APA. | ~225 words |
Annotated sample excerpt
An original model excerpt from our team, showing the register that scores at the top of the guide. It is study material: learn the moves, then write your own version.
I lead a floor crew of seven at Quarry Lane Garden Center through the spring season, and the inventory I completed returned a high score on consideration alongside a markedly lower one on structuring the work.1 Two occasions support that pattern: I rearranged the Saturday rota twice in April around one crew member's exam schedule, and I spent most of a Tuesday morning on a dispute between two staff that a shift lead could have settled in ten minutes.2 One occasion cuts the other way and I cannot explain it as consideration: during the bare-root delivery window in March I posted a fixed hourly sequence for unloading, refused two requests to swap tasks, and the crew cleared 40 pallets in a day and a half against the three days the same delivery had taken the previous year, which suggests the low structuring score reflects what I prefer to do rather than what I am able to do.3
- 1Role, team size, season, and the two scales reported as returned. Nothing is softened before the evidence arrives.
- 2Two dated occasions, one of which is unflattering. Specific beats representative, and the second example admits a cost.
- 3The contradicting incident, with a measured outcome, and a conclusion that reinterprets the score rather than defending it. This is the move the top column is written for.

The five mistakes that cost Distinguished
- The instrument left unnamed. A result without the tool that produced it cannot be verified, and the citation row catches it immediately.
- Evidence that only agrees. Three supporting examples and no counterexample shows collection rather than testing.
- Tendencies offered as incidents. Usually and generally describe a habit; the row is asking for a day and a decision.
- The score defended instead of interpreted. Explaining away a low result in the same sentence that reports it merges two separately scored rows and answers neither.
- No stated limit. A self-report scale that goes unquestioned reads as a scale not understood.
Pre-submission checklist
- Role, team, and period stated before any result appears
- The instrument named, sourced, and described by scale and range
- Results reported as returned, including the unflattering ones, with interpretation held back
- Two supporting occasions and one contradicting occasion, each with an outcome
- One sentence naming what a self-report scale cannot see
- A commitment with action, frequency, period, and measure; references matched both ways; self-scored Distinguished
