This manual is for BUS-FPX1011 Assessment 2, start to submission. The middle deliverable in Management Fundamentals usually moves from analysis into application: a structural problem in a working unit, a management framework applied to it on purpose, and a recommendation somebody could carry out on a stated date. Below is the method our tutors use for it, a structure that maps to the criteria, and an annotated sample excerpt. Short on time? A premium original sample for this exact assessment comes back in 24 to 48 hours, revised free until it meets the guide. Your courseroom may print this as BUS FPX 1011 Assessment 2 or BUS1011 Assessment 2; it is the same deliverable, and BUS-FPX1011 Assessment 2 is what this manual walks through.
One honesty note before the manual: Capella revises courses and scoring guides over time, so always write to the exact scoring guide attached to your assessment in the courseroom. The course identity above is verified on capella.edu; the method and structure below are our tutors' approach to it, not Capella's official rubric text.
How BUS-FPX1011 Assessment 2 is scored
There are no letter grades in FlexPath. Each criterion on the scoring guide lands on one of four levels, and the level language is the writing brief:
| Level | What it means on an applied structure and delegation paper |
|---|---|
| Distinguished | The structural problem is diagnosed with counts, the framework is applied rather than described, and the recommendation carries an owner, a cost in money or hours, and a start date. One sentence names what would make the recommendation the wrong call. |
| Proficient | Problem, framework, and recommendation all present and correct, with the recommendation stated generally enough that two readers could implement it differently. |
| Basic | An accurate account of what delegation or span of control means, attached to a workplace by assertion rather than by evidence. |
| Non-performance | One of the three required moves is missing outright, and the recommendation is the one most often reduced to a closing sentence. |
Application rows are where this course separates students, and the separator is rarely knowledge. It is whether a proposal has enough detail to be argued with. Anything a reader can neither price nor schedule reads as an opinion about management.
The BUS-FPX1011 Assessment 2 method, step by step
-
Copy the criteria out and count the verbs in each row
Business prompts routinely bury three tasks inside one sentence, and students answer the easiest. Underline every verb aimed at you, give each its own heading, and check at the end that no heading is doing double duty. Nothing you write outside those headings can be marked.
-
State the structural problem as a ratio, not a feeling
An overloaded supervisor is a complaint. One supervisor holding approval authority over twenty-four field staff across three crews, with eleven approvals a day arriving by phone, is a span-of-control problem with a shape. Ratios let you compare the unit against itself over time, which is what makes the diagnosis gradable.
-
Pick the framework that fits the mechanism
Choose the model because of what it explains, then say so. Span of control speaks to how many people one person can supervise before coordination costs eat the gain. Delegation speaks to which decisions travel down. Departmentalization speaks to how work is grouped in the first place. Naming the wrong instrument accurately still misses the criterion.
-
Separate delegation from abdication in writing
Delegation assigns the task, the authority to decide, and the resources, while accountability for the outcome stays with the manager. Abdication hands over the task and keeps the authority, or hands over both and stops looking. The distinction appears in scoring guides as graded vocabulary, so show it with a decision that actually moved.
-
Price the recommendation before you write it down
Give the action an owner by role, a start date, and a number: hours per week, a wage rate, a one-time cost. Then add the condition under which you would reverse it. A proposal with an exit condition reads as management; a proposal without one reads as enthusiasm.
-
Grade yourself against the guide, then submit with time to spare
Mark each row D, P, B, or N honestly and rewrite anything short of the top level. Build in the two business days an evaluation can take, and remember that a returned assessment costs you a cycle you had planned to spend on the next course.
A structure that maps to the criteria
Treat these lengths as planning targets our tutors use for an applied management paper at this level, not as Capella rules; expand wherever your own guide asks for more.
| Section | What it must do | Guide word target |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction | Name the organization, the unit, and the structural problem in three sentences, ending with the action the paper will recommend. | ~125 words |
| Diagnosis | The problem expressed as counts and ratios, with the period they cover and how you obtained them. | ~275 words |
| Framework applied | The model, its originator, and the mechanism it explains, walked through this unit's own numbers rather than defined in the abstract. | ~375 words |
| The recommendation | The action, the role who owns it, what it costs in hours or dollars, when it begins, and the condition that would call it off. | ~275 words |
| Conclusion | What changes if this is adopted, stated as something measurable within a quarter. | ~125 words |

Annotated sample excerpt
An original model excerpt from our team, showing the register that scores at the top of the guide. It is study material: learn the moves, then write your own version.
Cedar Row Grounds Care runs twenty-four seasonal crew members in three crews, and every quote revision, equipment swap, and schedule change still routes through the owner, who logged 218 inbound calls across the four weeks of May.1 Span of control describes the limit on how many subordinates one person can direct before the cost of coordinating them exceeds what the added oversight is worth, and the limit tightens as the work becomes less routine and the people become more dispersed, which is precisely the shape of grounds work across a county.2 Two crew leads already make these calls informally when the owner is unreachable, and none of those decisions has produced a rework claim in two seasons, so the authority has effectively moved without ever being granted.3
- 1The problem arrives as a ratio plus a count with a window. Twenty-four to one is comparable, and 218 calls in four weeks can be measured again after any change.
- 2Defines the concept and immediately attaches the condition that makes it bind in this unit. Definition and application in one sentence is the pattern that scores.
- 3Evidence the recommendation is low risk, drawn from what already happens. It also sets up the delegation section without announcing it.

The five mistakes that cost Distinguished
- A framework described where it should be operated. Two paragraphs explaining span of control, then a workplace paragraph that never uses the ratio, answers neither half of the row.
- Delegation used to mean assigning work. If no decision authority travels with the task, the paper is describing task distribution and calling it something else.
- A recommendation priced at zero. Every structural change costs hours somewhere, and a proposal with no cost has not been thought through to the end.
- Estimates that drift. A headcount given as twenty-four early and twenty-six later tells the evaluator to distrust every other figure in the paper.
- No stated downside. A proposal that cannot fail cannot be evaluated, and the top column usually pays for naming the risk.
Pre-submission checklist
- Every verb in every criterion has a heading answering it
- The problem stated as a ratio or a count with the period it covers
- The framework credited, and its mechanism walked through this unit's own figures
- Delegation distinguished from abdication using a decision that actually moved
- The recommendation carries a role, a cost, a start date, and a reversal condition
- Figures consistent throughout, references matched both ways, self-scored Distinguished
