How to write PSYC-FPX4900 Assessment 2

The short answer

This manual is for PSYC-FPX4900 Assessment 2, start to submission. The middle stretch of the capstone is usually the review, and the word that matters in the criteria is integrative: the section has to be organized by claim rather than by source, and where the studies disagree it has to decide between them instead of splitting the difference. A walkthrough of one article per paragraph is the clearest possible signal that integration has not happened, and it is the most common shape a first draft arrives in. Below is our tutors' method for building the review, a structure keyed to the criteria, and an annotated excerpt from an original model. Rather have it drafted with backup? A premium original sample for this exact assessment returns inside 24 to 48 hours, revised free until the guide is satisfied. Your courseroom may print this as PSYC FPX 4900 Assessment 2 or PSYC4900 Assessment 2; it is the same deliverable, and PSYC-FPX4900 Assessment 2 is what this manual walks through.

One honesty note before the manual: Capella revises courses and scoring guides over time, so always write to the exact scoring guide attached to your assessment in the courseroom. The course identity above is verified on capella.edu; the method and structure below are our tutors' approach to it, not Capella's official rubric text.

How PSYC-FPX4900 Assessment 2 is scored

One level of four per criterion, judged on its own, and in a long document each section is read against its own criterion rather than against the whole:

LevelWhat it means on an integrative review
DistinguishedParagraphs are organized by claim, disagreement is adjudicated rather than averaged into a middle position, and the design of the studies is what decides which body of work to believe. The top column wants a judgment with visible grounds.
ProficientSources grouped by theme and summarized accurately, with the disagreement noted and then left open for the reader to settle.
BasicA source-by-source walkthrough, one paragraph per article, in the order the articles were found.
Non-performanceNo synthesis at all, or claims made in the review with no citation attached to them.

The tool that makes this possible is a matrix built before any prose exists: one row per study, columns for design, sample, measure and finding. Write from the columns and every paragraph advances a claim; write from the rows and you have produced a bibliography with connective tissue.

The PSYC-FPX4900 Assessment 2 method, step by step

  1. Turn the criteria into headings and define what counts as a claim

A claim is a sentence the literature could contradict, not a topic. Whether coaching works, whether it works through planning rather than motivation, whether the effect lasts a term: each of those is a claim and deserves its own section. Themes are how you organized your files; claims are how you organize the review.

  2. Build the matrix before you write a sentence

One row per study, with columns for design, sample, what was measured, how long it ran, and what was found. Filling it takes an afternoon and saves a week, because the pattern in the columns is the argument, and gaps in the matrix show you which search to run next.

  3. Write from the columns rather than the rows

Open each paragraph with the claim, then bring in the two or three studies that bear on it and say what each contributes. If a paragraph names only one study, it is a summary rather than a synthesis, and that single habit accounts for most of the distance between the middle and the top of this guide.

  4. Adjudicate where the studies disagree

Find the difference that explains the gap: delivery, dose, sample, outcome measure, length of follow-up. Then say which body of work you find more persuasive and on what grounds a reader could check. Averaging two contradictory findings into a cautious middle sentence is the move the criteria are built to catch.

  5. Put the plain sentence in front of every number

Your reader is capable but not a specialist, so lead with what happened in ordinary words and let the statistics follow as support. Keep the discipline's hedges, associated with and consistent with, because they are accurate, and drop the shorthand that only means something inside a methods class.

  6. Cite your own earlier work where you carry it forward, then self-score

If a construct definition, a search or an analysis came from a paper you wrote earlier in the program, cite it the way you would cite anyone else. Reuse is what the degree was built for; reuse without a citation is a different matter. Then score each criterion yourself and submit early in the week.

A structure that maps to the criteria

Planning targets our tutors use for a capstone review section, not Capella rules; a longer guide will want more room in the claim sections and no more in the introduction.

Annotated sample excerpt

An original model excerpt from our team, provided as study material. The studies described are invented for teaching, and the point is how three sources can be made to settle one claim between them.

Sample excerpt: adjudicating a claim Original model · Capella Tutors

Three studies bear on the claim that brief coaching works through planning rather than through encouragement, and they do not agree, which is more useful than if they did.1 The two reporting an effect measured persistence as re-enrollment in the following term and delivered the coaching face to face; the one reporting nothing measured credits completed and delivered the same material by email, and the difference in delivery explains the gap better than the difference in outcome does, because both outcomes moved together in the two positive studies.2 Put plainly for a reader outside psychology: adult students who sat down with a coach came back the following term more often than those who did not, and students sent the same advice in writing did not, which points at the meeting rather than at the material.3

  • 1Opens on the claim, not on a study, and treats the disagreement as the reason the paragraph exists. Three sources are already working together in the first sentence.
  • 2Adjudicates by comparing designs rather than conclusions, and gives the reason one explanation beats the other. This is the judgment with grounds the top column describes.
  • 3Translates the finding for a capable non-specialist and names the mechanism the evidence points at. Plain English first, no jargon left undefined.

The five mistakes that cost Distinguished

  • The annotated bibliography in disguise. One paragraph per article, however well written, answers a summary criterion and leaves the synthesis one empty.
  • Disagreement averaged. Two contradictory findings folded into a cautious middle sentence hides the exact thing the criteria want you to examine.
  • Every study weighted the same. A single-group study and a randomized comparison do not carry equal weight, and a review that treats them alike has skipped the appraisal.
  • Findings reported only in statistics. At capstone length the reader is assumed to be outside the field, so a result with no plain sentence in front of it costs the communication criterion.
  • Your own earlier paper used silently. Carrying forward your prior text or analysis without citing it turns legitimate reuse into an integrity problem.

Pre-submission checklist

  • Every criterion answered under its own labeled heading
  • An evidence matrix built before any prose, with design, sample, measure and finding
  • Every claim section naming at least two studies and what each contributes
  • One contradiction adjudicated, with the difference that explains it identified
  • A plain-language sentence in front of every statistical result
  • Prior coursework of your own cited, current APA both directions, self-scored before submitting
