How to write MBA-FPX5002 Assessment 3

The short answer

Assessment 3 closes MBA-FPX5002 by making one argument out of everything the course produced: the instrument, the model, the workplace evidence, and the plan. Synthesis in FlexPath means a position defended, not a recap delivered. Every criterion is judged on its own against your guide, and the paper that reaches the top column reads like a leader explaining a practice rather than a student summarizing three papers. Here is the sequence our tutors use on it, the section budget that fits, and an excerpt annotated where levels are won. Or hand it over: the desk returns a premium original sample in 24 to 48 hours and revises it free until the guide is met.

One honesty note before the manual: Capella revises courses and scoring guides over time, so always write to the exact scoring guide attached to your assessment in the courseroom. The course identity above is verified on capella.edu; the method and structure below are our tutors' approach to it, not Capella's official rubric text.

How Assessment 3 is scored

Four levels per criterion, no points, no letter grade. The level text is the specification, and on a closing paper it reads like this:

LevelWhat it means on a closing leadership synthesis
DistinguishedThe three strands are fused rather than stacked: instrument evidence, model, and workplace outcome argued as one case, with your own leadership practice named and defended. Your guide will name an additional move; deliver that move explicitly.
ProficientAll the required material is present and correctly connected. The paper explains where it should argue, which is the usual one-column gap on a closing assessment.
BasicA recap of Assessments 1 and 2 with transitions between them. Accurate, complete, and making no claim of its own.
Non-performanceA required strand never appears, commonly the workplace application or the link back to the instrument evidence. Missing input, floor level, however well the rest reads.

Synthesis is the word that trips people. It does not mean summarize the course. It means take a position only someone who did the whole course could take, and support it with the evidence the course generated.

The method, step by step

  1. Read your two evaluations before anything else

The comments on Assessments 1 and 2 are the only feedback you will get from the person grading this one. Pull every criterion that came back below Distinguished and treat those comments as instructions for the closing paper, because evaluators notice when the same weakness arrives a third time.

  2. Rebuild the closing guide into headings

Same discipline as before: each criterion becomes a section, the Distinguished text sits underneath it, and the outline is finished before the writing starts. Synthesis papers drift more than any other kind, and the outline is what keeps them on the criteria instead of on the story.

  3. Pick the situation the whole course explains

Choose one leadership situation you are living through and check that all three strands reach it. If the instrument scores predict something about it, the model has language for it, and the development plan acts on it, you have the spine of the paper. If any strand cannot reach the situation, choose a different situation.

  4. Argue the through-line out loud

Write the chain in a single paragraph before drafting: the instrument said this, the behavior confirmed it, the model explains why, the plan changes it, and this situation is where the change shows. Every later section is that chain in slow motion with evidence attached.

  5. Answer the objection an evaluator would raise

Name the strongest reading that cuts against yours, an alternative explanation for the outcome or a limitation of a self-report instrument, and answer it inside the paper. Anticipating the counter-case is frequently the exact extra the Distinguished column describes on synthesis criteria.

  6. End with what changes on Monday, then self-score

Close on a specific near-term commitment tied to the situation, not on a paragraph about lifelong growth. Then read each section against its criterion, assign your own level honestly, and rewrite whatever you could not defend if challenged.

A structure that maps to the criteria

Section budgets our tutors use when planning a closing 5002 paper. They are planning figures only, and your scoring guide overrules them wherever the two disagree.

Sample excerpt: the situation, analyzed Original model · Capella Tutors

Six weeks into managing the returns team at Northline Medical Supply I had inherited a group that stopped raising problems long before I arrived, and my instrument profile predicted exactly the wrong opening move: high on task structure, low on individualized consideration, I began with a process audit.1 The model reads that choice as directive behavior applied to a group whose disengagement was relational in origin, and the outcome supports the reading, since the audit produced twelve process fixes and no new problem reports for a further three weeks.2 The claim this paper defends is narrower than a leadership philosophy: my default under pressure is to repair systems because systems do not argue back, and the practice I am building trades one process fixed in private for one question asked in person.3

  • 1The instrument is used to predict, not to describe, and the story then tests the prediction. That is the hardest evidence a reflective paper can carry.
  • 2The outcome is stated in countable terms, twelve fixes and zero reports, so the model's reading has something concrete to be right about.
  • 3The claim is small, specific, and arguable, which is what a synthesis criterion means by a defended position. Philosophy statements score lower because nothing could contradict them.

The five mistakes that cost Distinguished

  • The stapled recap. Assessment 1 summarized, then Assessment 2 summarized, then a conclusion, is three papers in a folder rather than one argument.
  • A claim nobody could dispute. If your thesis is that leadership matters and growth takes time, no evidence can support it and no criterion can reward it.
  • The disappearing instrument. Closing papers that drop the scores entirely lose the through-line the whole course was built to create.
  • Plan progress asserted. Saying the development plan is going well without a measure repeats the exact weakness the plan criteria already flagged.
  • No limits paragraph. A self-report instrument has boundaries; naming them reads as command of the method, leaving them out reads as not knowing they exist.

Pre-submission checklist

  • Every criterion in the closing guide has its own labeled section
  • One live situation carries the whole argument
  • Instrument, model, and workplace outcome appear inside the same argument, not in separate chapters
  • Development-plan progress reported with a number, or named openly as not yet measurable
  • One counter-reading raised and answered in the paper
  • Instrument, model source, and current literature cited both ways in APA
