This manual is for BUS-FPX4014 Assessment 2, start to submission. Assessment 2 of BUS-FPX4014, Operations Management for Competitive Advantage, is the inventory deliverable: you work out how much to order, when to order it, and how much cover to hold against a supplier who is sometimes late, then say where the model you used stops describing the business. How BUS-FPX4014 Assessment 2 is scored
FlexPath awards four levels per criterion and no letter grades, so the level descriptions are the only brief that counts:

Safety stock exists to cover variability, not average demand, which is why a reorder point built on an average lead time runs the shelf empty during exactly the week the model was meant to protect. If the case gives you a range, use the range. If it gives you nothing, say what you assumed and why.
The BUS-FPX4014 Assessment 2 method, step by step

Outline from the criteria, then write down every input
Headings from the guide, then a short table of inputs: annual demand, cost to place an order, cost to hold one unit for a year, lead time and its range, and the number of working days you are dividing by. Every later figure traces back to that table, and a reader who can see the inputs can follow the whole paper.

Compute the order quantity and show the working
With annual demand of 14,400 units, 85 dollars to place an order and 4.20 dollars to hold a unit for a year, the economic order quantity is the square root of two times 14,400 times 85, divided by 4.20, which is the square root of 582,857 and about 763 units. That means roughly 19 orders a year. Write the substitution out; a criterion about applying quantitative methods wants to see the method, not only its answer.

Check that the two costs balance
At 19 orders a year the ordering cost is about 1,615 dollars, and average inventory of 382 units at 4.20 dollars is about 1,602 dollars. Those two numbers should land close together, and if yours do not, an input is wrong. Building that check into the paper demonstrates understanding of what the formula is doing rather than obedience to it.

Build the reorder point on the worst lead time, not the average
Daily demand of 48 units against a lead time that runs between four and nine days gives an average requirement of 312 units and a maximum of 432. Safety stock is the difference the variation creates, 2.5 days at 48 units, or 120 units, so the reorder point is 432. State plainly that the average would have left the shelf empty on roughly half the late deliveries.

Run one sensitivity check
Recompute with demand ten percent higher and say what moves. It takes two minutes and it shows more competence than the original calculation did, because the order quantity changes with the square root and therefore moves less than students expect. Name which input the answer is most sensitive to.

State where the model stops describing the business, then self-score
The order quantity model assumes demand that does not vary, replenishment that is instant and a holding cost that stays proportional, and none of those is true of most businesses that would use it. Say which assumption breaks hardest here and what you would do about it. Then score your draft criterion by criterion and rewrite anything below the top level.

Oxbow Outfitters sells 14,400 of its mid-weight base layer a year through one warehouse, which across 300 trading days is 48 units a day.1 The mill quotes seven days and has delivered in anywhere from four to nine over the last eighteen orders, so cover built on the seven-day quote would be 336 units and cover built on the observed maximum is 432, a difference of 96 units that costs about 403 dollars a year to hold and prevents a stockout in every one of the four late deliveries recorded.2 Safety stock is therefore set at 120 units above average lead time demand of 312, and the reorder point is 432 units.3

The five mistakes that cost Distinguished
- Formulas applied with no substitution shown. A criterion about quantitative method wants the working, and an answer alone cannot demonstrate a method.
- Average lead time used for the reorder point. The reorder point exists for the late delivery, so building it on an average guarantees it fails in the case it was meant for.
- Assumptions never stated. Steady demand and instant replenishment describe very few businesses, and a paper that ignores this reads as arithmetic without judgment.
- Holding cost invented. If the case gives no holding rate, say what percentage of unit cost you assumed and why, rather than producing a figure from nowhere.
- No sensitivity check anywhere. Recomputing with one input changed takes minutes and is often the single move that lifts a numerate paper to the top column.
