How BIO-FPX1000 Assessment 3 is scored
No curve is applied and no letter is issued. The guide places each criterion on one of four levels, and that wording is your specification:

Synthesis is the skill this level of biology is really teaching, and it transfers. Judging a claim by the way it was produced is the same operation whether the subject is a supplement, a screening test or a workplace program, and the criterion rewards the operation rather than the topic.

Fix the question before you gather anything
Reading widely and then looking for a thread produces a paper that summarizes. Write the question as one sentence first, narrow enough that a source could contradict it, and gather against that sentence. Everything you collect then has a job, and anything with no job stays out.

Rank the evidence by how it was made
Cells in a dish show a mechanism is possible. An animal study shows it in a body that is not yours. An observational study shows two things travelling together. A trial shows that changing one changes the other. A review shows what appears when somebody gathers all of them. Say which produced your claim.

Write the disagreement instead of quietly choosing a side
Where sources conflict, name the feature that differs, usually the population, the dose, the duration or the outcome measured, and show that the results answer slightly different questions. A paper citing only the agreeing source made a decision the reader cannot see.

Keep the arithmetic in the sentence
Convert percentages into people, state the denominator, give the window. A 30 percent reduction means one thing when the starting risk is 40 in 100 and another when it is 4 in 1,000. Doing that on the page is the clearest sign you read the study rather than its abstract.

Name what would settle it
Name the measurement or the trial that would resolve the disagreement you described. A student who can state what evidence is missing has understood the method the course teaches, and that sentence is often the difference between the top two columns.

Reconcile, then self-score
Check every citation against the reference list both ways, confirm each figure still matches its source, and read the guide one criterion at a time marking your own level. Anything below the top column gets another pass, and the attempt goes in early enough to absorb the review window.

Iron leaves the body with every donation, on the order of 200 to 250 milligrams of it in a standard whole blood unit, and the store it comes out of is tracked by serum ferritin rather than by hemoglobin.1 That distinction explains why a donor can pass the hemoglobin screen at the door and still be drawing the store down, because hemoglobin holds up until ferritin is nearly gone; the ordering of those two measurements is the mechanism, and it is why a threshold set on hemoglobin alone does not detect early depletion.2 Trials of supplementation after donation report faster recovery of ferritin than deferral alone, while observational comparisons of donor groups differ on how much the interval between donations matters, and that difference tracks with whether the study measured ferritin or only hemoglobin, which makes it a disagreement about the outcome variable rather than about iron.3

The five mistakes that cost Distinguished
- Sources stacked in sequence. Paragraph after paragraph of what each author found, with no relationship stated, is an annotated bibliography in a paper's formatting.
- A percentage with no baseline risk. A relative reduction is unreadable until the starting number sits beside it, and the conversion takes one clause.
- The conflicting study left out. Omitting the result that disagrees is a decision the reader cannot see, and it forfeits the row that pays for evaluating evidence.
- Design mentioned nowhere. If the paper never says whether a finding came from a trial or an observation, the source-quality criterion has nothing to score.
- A conclusion firmer than the evidence. Hedging everything is not the repair; matching the strength of the claim to the strength of the design is.
